On Friday 15th July, I had the pleasure of presenting grants to nineteen different community groups, charities and sports teams based in the Rhondda. Funds were raised through the sale of the annual Rhondda Calendar, featuring images of the local area submitted and selected through a photographic competition run by the Rhondda Leader.
I first developed this scheme with the Leader in 2004, and since its inception it has provided a regular source of income for local organisations that do so much fantastic work within our communities. It was great to meet the people running these groups, as well as some enthusiastic young footballers from the Valley’s United team.
The following groups received funding:
- Ashlyn Picton Uganda Appeal
- Ferndale and District Art Society
- Ferndale Skate Park
- Gelli Park Bowls Club
- Maerdy Gateway Appeal
- People First
- Pontygwaith and Stanleytown Walking Group
- Rhondda Boys and Girls Club Appeal
- Rhondda Cynon Taff Creative Writers Group
- Rhondda Veterans Support Group
- Selsig Amateur Operatic Society
- Stanleytown Action Group
- Trealaw Village Trust
- Trealaw Youth Development
- Treorchy Senior Citizens
- Tylorstown OAPs
- Valleys United football team
- Village and Valleys
- World of Words
